Lumigan is a prescription medication used primarily to treat high pressure inside the eye due to open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It belongs to a class of drugs called prostaglandin analogs and works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye), thereby reducing intraocular pressure.
Lumigan is indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
It is also used to lower intraocular pressure in individuals with ocular hypertension, a condition characterized by higher than normal pressure inside the eye.
Lumigan contains the active ingredient bimatoprost, which is a synthetic prostaglandin analog. It works by binding to specific receptors in the eye called prostaglandin receptors. This action increases the drainage of aqueous humor from the eye, reducing intraocular pressure.
